📝 Ingredients
For the Vanilla Dough
- 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar
- 2 ¼ teaspoons (7 g) instant dry yeast
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- ¾ cup (180 ml) warm milk
- 4 tablespoons (56 g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Dough
- Half of the prepared dough
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1–2 tablespoons milk, if needed
For Frying
- Vegetable oil, enough for deep frying
👩🍳 Instructions
- Make the dough:
In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until slightly foamy. - Add the eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Gradually add the flour and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Make the chocolate dough:
Divide the risen dough into two equal portions. Knead the cocoa powder into one portion. If the chocolate dough feels dry, add 1–2 tablespoons of milk and knead until smooth. - Roll the vanilla dough and chocolate dough separately into similar-sized rectangles.
- Place the chocolate dough over the vanilla dough and gently press them together.
- Roll the layered dough into a tight log. Cut it into equal pieces.
- Take each piece, gently roll or stretch it into a rope, then twist it and connect the ends to form a ring.
- Place the shaped donuts on parchment paper, cover loosely, and let them rest for 20–30 minutes.
- Fry:
Heat vegetable oil to approximately 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry the donuts in batches for about 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. - Transfer them to a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Let them cool slightly and serve warm.
✨ Tip
Keep the frying temperature steady. If the oil is too hot, the outside will brown too quickly while the inside may remain undercooked.
