Ingredients
4–5 fresh oranges
1½–2 cups (360–480 ml) neutral carrier oil, such as sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, or olive oil
1 clean, completely dry glass jar with a tight-fitting lid
Cheesecloth or a fine-mesh strainer
Clean, dry glass bottle for storage
Instructions
Wash the oranges thoroughly and dry them completely with a clean towel.
Peel the oranges, removing as much of the white pith as practical. Cut the orange peels into small strips.
Dry the peels completely. Spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and allow them to air-dry until they are completely dry and no longer soft or moist. You can also use a food dehydrator according to its instructions.
Place the completely dried orange peels into a clean, completely dry glass jar.
Pour the carrier oil over the peels until they are fully submerged. Leave a little space at the top of the jar.
Close the jar tightly and gently shake it to distribute the peels through the oil.
Store the jar in a cool, dark place for 1–2 weeks, gently shaking it once a day or every few days.
After the infusion period, strain the oil through cheesecloth or a fine-mesh strainer. Squeeze the peels gently to extract as much oil as possible.
Pour the strained oil into a clean, completely dry glass bottle and seal it tightly.
Storage: Keep the finished oil away from heat, light, and moisture. For a homemade infusion, refrigeration is a more cautious storage option. Discard it if you notice mold, cloudiness, bubbling, an unpleasant smell, or any other sign of spoilage.
