Homemade Twisted Sugar Doughn

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) warm milk
  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • ¼ cup (60 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2¼ teaspoons (7 g) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil, enough for deep frying

For Coating:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of the sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for 5–10 minutes, until slightly foamy.
  2. Add the eggs, remaining sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Gently punch down the dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface.
  7. Divide the dough into 12–14 equal pieces.
  8. Roll each piece into a long rope, about 8–10 inches long.
  9. Twist each rope several times and pinch the ends together to create the beautiful twisted shape.
  10. Place the shaped doughnuts on a lightly floured tray. Cover and let them rest for another 20–30 minutes.
  11. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to approximately 350°F (175°C).
  12. Carefully place the doughnuts into the hot oil, working in small batches.
  13. Fry for about 2–3 minutes per side, turning gently, until puffed and evenly golden brown.
  14. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  15. While still warm, roll each doughnut generously in granulated sugar.
  16. Serve warm and enjoy these soft, fluffy, golden homemade twisted doughnuts! 🍩✨

Tip: Keep the oil around 350°F (175°C). If the oil is too hot, the outside can brown too quickly while the center remains undercooked.
