Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup warm whole milk
2¼ tsp active dry yeast
½ cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
½ tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
Vegetable oil, for frying
👩🍳 Instructions
- Activate the yeast
Combine the warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of the sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes, until foamy. - Make the dough
In a large bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the egg, melted butter, vanilla, and yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms. - Knead & rise
Knead the dough for 7–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place it in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size. - Cut the donuts
Roll the dough out on a lightly floured wooden surface to about ½ inch thick. Cut out donut shapes using a donut cutter or two round cutters. - Second rise
Place the donuts on parchment paper, cover loosely, and let them rise for 20–30 minutes. - Fry
Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry the donuts in batches for about 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown. - Drain & glaze
Transfer the donuts to a wire rack or paper towels to drain. Let them cool slightly before glazing.
🍯 Simple Glaze
2 cups powdered sugar
3–4 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
