🍩 Homemade Glazed Donuts

Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup warm whole milk
2¼ tsp active dry yeast
½ cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
½ tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
Vegetable oil, for frying
👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast
Combine the warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of the sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes, until foamy.
  2. Make the dough
In a large bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the egg, melted butter, vanilla, and yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead & rise
Knead the dough for 7–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place it in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
  4. Cut the donuts
Roll the dough out on a lightly floured wooden surface to about ½ inch thick. Cut out donut shapes using a donut cutter or two round cutters.
  5. Second rise
Place the donuts on parchment paper, cover loosely, and let them rise for 20–30 minutes.
  6. Fry
Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry the donuts in batches for about 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  7. Drain & glaze
Transfer the donuts to a wire rack or paper towels to drain. Let them cool slightly before glazing.
    🍯 Simple Glaze
    2 cups powdered sugar
    3–4 tbsp milk
    1 tsp vanilla extract
Whisk everything together until smooth. Dip the warm donuts into the glaze and place them on a wire rack to set.
