2¼ teaspoons instant yeast
¼ cup granulated sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup warm milk
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 large egg
For the Sugar Coating
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons melted butter, optional
For Frying
Vegetable oil, as needed
👩🍳 Instructions
In a large bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.
Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about ½-inch thickness.
Cut out doughnut shapes using a doughnut cutter or two round cutters.
Place the doughnuts on a tray, cover lightly, and let them rise again for 20–30 minutes.
Heat vegetable oil to 340–350°F (170–180°C).
Carefully fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown on both sides, about 1–2 minutes per side.
Remove and drain on paper towels.
While still warm, lightly brush the doughnuts with melted butter if desired.
Immediately roll each doughnut generously in granulated sugar until completely coated.
