- 3 large chayotes
- 200 g ham, sliced or diced
- 250 g Oaxaca, Manchego, or mozzarella cheese, grated
- 2 eggs
- Β½ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs, optional
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Oil, for frying
π©βπ³ Instructions
1οΈβ£ Cook the chayotes
Wash the chayotes and cook them whole in salted water for 20β30 minutes, until tender but still firm. Let them cool slightly.
2οΈβ£ Prepare the chayotes
Cut each chayote in half lengthwise and remove the seed. Carefully scoop out some of the flesh, leaving a thick shell.
3οΈβ£ Prepare the filling
Chop the removed flesh and mix it with the ham and grated cheese. Add a little black pepper.
4οΈβ£ Stuff & coat
Generously fill each chayote half. You can join two filled halves together. Coat with flour, then beaten egg, and finally breadcrumbs if using.
5οΈβ£ Fry until golden π₯
Heat the oil and fry the stuffed chayotes on both sides until golden and crispy. Place them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
6οΈβ£ Serve & enjoy! π
Serve hot while the cheese is beautifully melted and delicious!
