Purslane Powder – A Superfood You Shouldn’t Ignore
Purslane, a wild herb often considered a weed, is packed with nutrients and health benefits. It is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals, making it a great addition to any healthy diet. In this recipe, we’ll turn fresh purslane leaves into a nutritious powder that you can use in smoothies, soups, salads, or as a seasoning.
Ingredients:
- Fresh purslane leaves (harvested from your garden or purchased from a store)
Instructions:
- Harvest or buy fresh purslane leaves. Ensure that the leaves are young and tender for the best flavor and nutrient content.
- Wash the purslane thoroughly to remove any dirt or pesticides.
- Dry the purslane leaves. You can either air-dry them or use a dehydrator. If you don’t have a dehydrator, you can also dry them in the oven at a low temperature (around 100°F or 38°C) for several hours, checking occasionally to ensure they don’t burn.
- Once the leaves are fully dried and crisp, grind them into a fine powder using a blender or spice grinder.
- Store the purslane powder in airtight jars to maintain its freshness. It should last for several months when kept in a cool, dry place.
How to Use:
- Add a spoonful of purslane powder to smoothies for a nutrient boost.
- Sprinkle it on soups, salads, or roasted vegetables for an extra punch of flavor and health benefits.
- Use it as a seasoning in your cooking or even in homemade energy bars.
