Recipe: Homemade Flatbread
Introduction:
This soft and fluffy homemade flatbread is perfect for serving with dips, curries, or even as a base for wraps and sandwiches. Made with simple ingredients, it requires no yeast, making it a quick and easy bread to prepare. The result is a warm, fresh flatbread with a golden, slightly crispy exterior and a soft, airy interior.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp olive oil (or vegetable oil)
- 3/4 cup warm water (adjust if needed)
- A little flour for rolling
Instructions:
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Add wet ingredients: Pour in the olive oil and warm water. Mix with your hands or a spoon until the dough starts to come together. If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour. If it’s too dry, add a bit more water.
- Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Rest the dough: Let the dough rest for 10-15 minutes. This helps it relax, making it easier to roll out.
- Divide and roll: Once rested, divide the dough into small balls (about 8-10 pieces). Roll each ball into a thin circle, about 1/4 inch thick. Dust with flour as needed to prevent sticking.
- Cook the flatbreads: Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Place one flatbread at a time into the dry skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown spots appear. Flip and cook the other side, pressing lightly with a spatula to encourage puffing.
- Serve: Remove the cooked flatbreads from the pan and place them on a plate. Cover with a clean towel to keep them warm. Serve with your favorite dips, curries, or as a wrap base!
Enjoy your homemade flatbread, warm and freshly made!
