From Dough to Delight: The Journey of Homemade Bread

Recipe Introduction: This recipe takes you through the simple yet satisfying process of making soft, fluffy bread. By boiling the dough before baking, you achieve a unique texture and golden, crispy crust. Perfect for homemade sandwiches or enjoying with a warm bowl of soup!


Ingredients:

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 7g active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 300ml warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Activate Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, mix the warm water with sugar and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until the dough comes together.
  3. Knead the Dough:
    • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Dough:
    • Once risen, punch the dough down and divide it into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball.
  6. Boil the Dough:
    • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Gently lower the dough balls into the water, one at a time. Boil for 1-2 minutes per side, then remove with a slotted spoon.
  7. Bake:
    • Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Place the boiled dough balls on a baking sheet. If desired, sprinkle sesame or poppy seeds on top for extra flavor. Use a sharp knife to make a shallow cross on the top of each ball.
  8. Final Bake:
    • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the bread has a golden crust and sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Serve:
    • Let the bread cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature!
