Creamy, tender, and beautifully golden on top, these scalloped potatoes are the perfect comforting side dish. In my humble opinion, theyβre simply the best!
Ingredients
4 cups potatoes, thinly sliced
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1Β½ cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
Β½ cup green onions, sliced
Instructions
Prepare the potatoes: Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Peel the potatoes if desired, then slice them very thinly and evenly.
Make the creamy sauce: Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute.
Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens slightly, then stir in the salt.
Layer: Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle with some sliced green onions and pour over a little of the creamy sauce.
Repeat the layers until all the potatoes, green onions, and sauce have been used. Make sure the sauce is distributed evenly.
Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for about 45 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 20β30 minutes, or until the potatoes are completely tender and the top is golden brown.
Let the potatoes rest for 5β10 minutes before serving.
Serving Tip
Serve these creamy scalloped potatoes hot alongside roasted chicken, beef, pork, or your favorite comfort-food dinner.
