Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 large eggs
½ cup whole milk
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vegetable oil, for frying
Powdered sugar, for serving (optional)
Instructions
Mix the dry ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
Add the wet ingredients:
Add the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until everything comes together into a soft, slightly sticky dough.
Form the dough:
Lightly flour your work surface and transfer the dough onto it. Gently knead for about 1–2 minutes, just until smooth. Avoid adding too much flour.
Roll and cut:
Roll the dough into a sheet about ¼-inch thick. Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut it into small bite-sized squares.
Heat the oil:
Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep, heavy-bottomed pan to 350°F (175°C).
Fry:
Carefully add the dough pieces in small batches. Fry for about 2–3 minutes, turning occasionally, until puffed and evenly golden brown.
Drain:
Remove the fried bites with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Serve:
Let them cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm and enjoy these crispy, golden homemade bites!
