Ingredients
2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
½ tsp salt
1 tsp granulated sugar
½ tsp baking powder
3 tbsp (45 g) butter or margarine, softened
½ cup (120 ml) water, approximately
1 egg, beaten, for brushing (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder.
Add the Butter
Add the softened butter and rub it into the flour mixture with your fingertips until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Make the Dough
Gradually add the water, mixing until a firm, smooth dough forms. Add the water little by little—you may not need all of it.
Roll Out the Dough
Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and roll it out very thinly. The thinner the dough, the crispier the crackers will be.
Cut the Crackers
Cut the dough into small squares or rectangles using a knife, pizza cutter, or cookie cutter.
Prick with a Fork
Transfer the crackers to the prepared baking tray. Prick each cracker several times with a fork to prevent them from puffing up during baking.
Brush with Egg Wash
Lightly brush the crackers with beaten egg if you want a beautiful golden finish.
Bake
Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the crackers are crisp and lightly golden around the edges.
Cool Completely
Remove from the oven and let the crackers cool completely on a wire rack. Once cooled, store them in an airtight container.
