🧀 Crispy Ham & Cheese Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 12 slices of ham
  • 12 slices of Manchego, Chihuahua, mozzarella, or Gouda cheese
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For Serving:

  • White rice with carrots and peas
  • Fresh lettuce and tomato salad
  • Homemade tomato sauce
  • Chipotle mayonnaise or chipotle sauce
  • Hot sauce, to taste
  • French fries or potato salad, optional

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Place a slice of ham on a clean surface and place a slice of cheese near one end. Roll the ham tightly around the cheese, making sure the cheese is completely covered.
  2. Repeat with the remaining ham and cheese. Place the rolls on a plate or tray and refrigerate for 20 minutes. This helps the coating stay firm and keeps the cheese from escaping during frying.
  3. Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and a little salt.
  4. Coat each ham roll in flour, then dip it into the beaten egg, and finally coat it thoroughly with the seasoned breadcrumbs.
  5. For an extra-crispy coating, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps for a second layer.
  6. Heat enough vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 170–175°C (340–350°F).
  7. Fry the rolls in small batches for about 2–3 minutes per side, turning carefully until golden brown and evenly crispy.
  8. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Let them rest for about 2 minutes before serving.
  9. Cut one open to reveal the warm, creamy, perfectly melted cheese inside! 🧀🔥

🍅 Serving Ideas:

Serve with white rice, carrots and peas, a fresh lettuce and tomato salad, homemade tomato sauce, chipotle mayonnaise, hot sauce, French fries, or potato salad.

💡 Tips for Perfect Ham & Cheese Rolls:

  • Choose a cheese that melts well, such as Manchego, Chihuahua, mozzarella, or Gouda.
  • Keep the cheese slightly shorter than the ham so it can be completely wrapped.
  • Don’t skip the 20-minute refrigeration step—it helps prevent the cheese from leaking.
  • Keep the oil hot but not smoking. Oil that’s too cool makes the rolls greasy, while oil that’s too hot can brown them too quickly.
  • For maximum crunch, use a double coating of egg and breadcrumbs.

Golden, crispy, juicy, and packed with gooey melted cheese—these rolls are impossible to resist! 😋
